The Gallery: Katja Ollendorff

You may have noticed Katja Ollendorff’s work when we blogged about The Beholder/Zinc Details reception back in March. The San Francisco artist offers a modern twist on the traditional craft of embroidery.

Yes, embroidery. From a distance, her art is often mistaken for paintings. But the nature-inspired imagery is hand-embroidered on linen.

We love the minimal and organic feel of her bird-on-a-wire and tree motifs – so much that we had to buy one for our own home.

Ollendorff’s work can be purchased through The Beholder. There are still several pieces available, and all are under $300.

Wow this is beautiful and so inspiring. I actually like to embroider but always gift the finished product to my mom or grandmother b/c the patters are never my style. I will deifinitely look into creating my own patterns.
