For Sale: Gavin Newsom's Bellaire Tower Penthouse
San Francisco

01_04.29.09_GavinPenthouse.jpgFor $3,000,000 you can have the Russian Hill penthouse that belongs to San Francisco's major, Gavin Newsom. He purchased the 1,693 square foot condo in 2006 from Peter Getty for $2,350,000. Since then it has been completely remodeled and transformed from a two-bedroom to a one-bedroom luxurious penthouse. Located on Green Street in San Francisco, it offers incredible views of the city and the Bay Area. An ultimate bachelor's pad, but is it worth it at this price tag? Check out more photos after the jump...

The interior feels very polished and classy, but the color scheme is a bit too monochromatic. If you love brown and neutrals this might be your style. We can appreciate the architectural details, arched windows, dark wood floors, and the amazing views. As Lily from 7x7 notes in her story, the condo was stripped and completely remodeled by Michael Agins Interior Design. With declining real estate market, the price has already been reduced from $3,200,000 to $2,995,000. At this price and with $1415/a month HOA dues, is it worth it? What do you think?

$1793 a square foot plus over $10/square foot annual HOA dues - and not even any private outdoor space or jacuzzi tub?

Perhaps it's worth it in Tokyo or New York, but not here in San Francisco.

I will never understand the psychology of some people. First, Mr. Gavin bought at the height of the market. Second, he decreased the number of bedrooms, which in traditional real estate wisdom, is a no-no. Moreover, since everything was stripped to the studs, one assumes/hopes that what was taken away was not the original deco details.

So I am left wondering why some realtors/sellers expect me to pay for their decoration? I know that improvements generally increase value, but a coat of paint and fresh moldings are not improvements.

oh man Gavin, way to have West Elm decorate your 3 million dollar pad. I agree, too trendy, too chocolate brown.

No to mention that whomever buys it likely won't be buying the furnishings....just the brown and taupe paint.

Hideous.

Money and taste do not go hand-in-hand.

So cruel!
@ Lady j: It is a Morrocan rug pattern. I believe that one is from West Elm but is no longer on their site.

My thinking is the same as jen_g - I wish I could carry the title "civil servant" and have this much money to buy a place in SF.

Better yet, he's probably selling this place for a bigger, more $$, more BROWN place! :P

Well....the view is nice. Overall , this feels more like an expensive executive rental than a home.
