Elissa, whose lovely blog, Vintage Green, is one of our favorite reads, has recently been on a mission to spruce up her front porch. So far she's just added a love seat and given the cool old glider a makeover, but even these small changes make the porch look so sweet and inviting. There are plans in the works to powerwash and paint, maybe add an outdoor rug... we think this porch is already a great example of how a couple of plants and a few mixed-and-matched places to sit are all you really need to create a comfortable outdoor room. Click through to check out before and after photos of the glider...

After she found this glider in a neighbor's trash a while back, Elissa re-covered the cushions, but since then the fabric has faded considerably (as tends to happen with outdoor furniture). Her solution was to go ahead and treat the fabric with a coat of paint. We love the way the old pattern shows through the sheer green, and the chair itself is quite a find for a lover of vintage patio furniture.
Read more about Elissa's ongoing porch transformation on her blog, Vintage Green. Also be sure to have a look at her Flickr page for more photos of the projects she's working on at home.

Your porch is really pretty. Can you tell me where you purchased the green wire chair?

I actually prefer the glider cushion fabric before the addition of paint.

Thanks everyone!
The green wire chair was another curbside find in the neighborhood. I guess people don't know how cool their junk is! I just used a wire brush and spray paint. The fabric I used for the initial recovering was Sunbrella, but I don't think they had yet figured out how to stop patterns from fading. It looked a lot worse in person than in the picture. The cushions on the wicker chairs (there are two more on the other end of the porch) are for outdoor chairs so I hope the fabric is meant for outdoor use.

I like the After MUCH better. And, I dig your daring mix of warm and cool greens & blues. Very eclectic, and it works! I feel like greens are always wonderful on a porch b/c they tie in with all the trees & natural vegetation.

This is such a beautiful space, you could put any number of styles out there and it would look incredible. Great job in what you chose to use!
