There's nothing like crisp, white bed linens (especially those over 400 thread count) with splashes of bright color here and there to infuse a bright bit of contrast.
We've used two coral pink floor pillows and an inexpensive ($5!) flannel throw to brighten up our whites. Makes you want to get up in the morning with a fresh start on your day.

I *heart* your new room Victoria. You are an amazingly talented woman. My idol!

Um, what if you need to sit down on that chair? What if someone needs that blanket in another room?
Sorry, but why put form over function? I don't see the logic of leaving a blanket on a chair just to add colour. I mean, you actually live in that space. It isn't just a picture.
Wouldn't a fantastic, colourful cushion serve the gods of both form and function?

Ravishing, my dear. Wouldn't expect anything less with your fine taste for design... (:

thanks everyone. and just to clarify, the chair is quite small - it's a children's vintage chair, that i usually stack books on (or use as a step stool). and the blanket is definitely functioning - i curled up with all afternoon on saturday. when i'm not using it, i just like the color and pattern it adds to the room, so i leave on display, rather than tucking it away in a closet. that way it's form AND function. yay!

Some like to use functional items as a decorative element in addition to serving its prescribed purpose. In this case,
Victoria so nicely shows us that a blanket doesn't need to be stored, but can actually add color and texture to a room if left out and displayed neatly. Red adds warmth since Victoria uses a base of white in her home, so I think she was very clever to use the blanket as a decorative element instead of running out and spending money on throw pillows when in fact, her blanket could serve as one.
Although the chair is meant for a child, as Victoria pointed out, if one did sit on it, they could sit on the blanket for cushioning, or remove it, to tuck it behind their back for support.

love that shade of pink
What is your advice on making white walls seem intentional/part of the decor instead of just something renters are forced to live with?

Thanks Holly!
LaDonna - I think white can be look at as an excellent palette to start with and build upon with any colors you like. I think of it as my 'background' and when the mood, or season, strikes me I change out my cushions (usually by making new pillow covers and replacing the old), accessories, the color of flowers I buy...etc. So, if you look at it that way, you're not 'stuck' with it, but rather quite lucky!
