Welcome to ebrown (who has actually been with us since the beginning.) She hesitated about sharing this room because she feels the style is not one with the prevailing winds, but we're glad she got over it.
Check out
the full set of images on flickr to see the way she's wall-mounted a splinter from the old oak beams of Salisbury Cathedral.
Thanks ebrown!
don't be nervous about having your own style, girl!
i have to say i like how in the first picture, you picked the blue up from the painting in those little boxes.
this seems like a cramped space. like you, i have NO ROOM on the sides of my bed. have you thought about doing a floating shelf for the bedsides? it might give the illusion of more space. i'd do it in my place, but i have no money. haha
& the bedside lighting. i love paper lamps, & i have no idea what else could work in your place, but these kinda draw my attention to the slant in the ceiling & how the window is kinda off center. not being critical, just constructive as a girl dealing w/ some of the same issues.
i wish i had an outside eye to look at my place. i can't figure it out!
I'm glad that you shared. My style is not mid-century modern either.
I like that you have large artwork in your private space. I'm struggling with that. I also like the nice mix of different blues.
Looks very well thought out, serene, and most of all personal.
Hi there. I think that this is a beautiful, serene space. Is that your artwork? Wonderful.
mg, the bedside table issue is still an issue for me. The two chests happened to fit, so I used them but it's clearly a temporary solution. Floating shelves might be the answer. I actully don't mind calling attention to the slanted ceiling. But the main thing with those lamps is at night the glow is amazing.
Rachel, the two paintings on the left are by Janet McKenzie; the painting of the mother clutching a child is by Carol Aust.
ebrown, don't be nervous! You have excellent taste. I love the mix of blue hues. Gorgeous room!

I'm feeling blind, as I don't see the image with the beam. But Salisbury Cathedral is one of my favorite places on the earth.
