The top photo shows a subdued kitchen in Berkeley. With a muted palette and simple forms, this kitchen plays it very cool.
This Redwood City kitchen has striking blue cabinets that remind us of Small Cool 2007's London Urchin's foldout kitchen.
And this kitchen has efficient uses packed into it at all heights: a way-high display shelf accessed by ladder, upper cabinets, a little cup shelf below, a counter-height work surface and book case, and table-height dining all in one space!
The wall-mount Tolomeos above these counters provide lighting but also a whole lot of visual interest. We must say, we haven't seen these armed lamps used in this application before, but we like the idea of directional task lighting at the kitchen's work surface.

I would like the ladder to be explained in more detail ie. what is used as the bar and what kind of ladder and the distance from the counter etc...I have very high shelving in a rental unit and it is impossible to get to safely so I wonder if this can be done cheaply and still pretty?
