The owner of this English Tudor "castle" in St Francis Wood was looking to create a space with a masculine feel, but one that women would find comfortable, too. The finished result, envisioned by interior designer Lawanna Cathleen Endonino, offers contemporary elements that manage to blend smoothly with the traditional architectural elements of the home.
And yet... there was something about this makeover that we were a little on the fence about. The color palette, while warming, felt a little blah, and we couldn't pick out much of the owner's tastes, save for some of the art (though the designer did purchase some of it, as well). Then we realized that this area is is strictly for renting out or entertaining, and the "private quarters" had yet to be touched. Well, ah ha! For an event space we think it makes more sense, but what do you think of the look?

Not feeling it.
The combo of salmon and that particular brown and wood tone, plus the decor...if they were aiming for a soulless generic look, they succeeded.

Is that woodwork oak? As a finish, for things like moulding and trim, or ornamentation...or furniture...well, pretty much anything.....the honey color you see on a lot of oak projects and just doesn't send me, everything looks too manufactured...not that it IS. .... If it was stained darker, though, the room in those pics would start to look more inviting and lived in, just my opinion.

I agree with LoriSF. Those browns are really dull and flat (rather than matte and rich feeling) It's also lacks spirit, being so obviously matchie-matchie.

Since this post is right after the "railroad flat" in NYC, I think it just proves the fact that when you push all the $$$ into a decorators hands to make a show piece, it just can't compare to a renter who loves his space and forms it as a sculptor of clay into a place of beauty.

Although it's all quite tasteful, It appears to be completely lacking any pattern or character. Although I really like the background color of the walls, natual mouldings and drapery treatments, the choices of furnishings are completely soulless, generic and drab.
