Carpet Tiles as Bulletin Board

2-19-09 flor board.jpgThere are plenty of ways to mask a bland bulletin board - you can wrap it in fabric, paint it, and on and on. But if the whole idea of a cork board just bores you to begin with, we like this idea, too...

2-19-09 flor board 2.jpgUsing carpet tiles is a nice alternative to the standard cork, and can add some texture (and color) to your wall. The late, great Blueprint recommended simply stapling the tiles to your wall, this example on the Flor website was created by attaching the tiles to a thin sheet of MDF. We think this sounds good as it means less holes in your wall, but either way seems to work. For more uses for carpet tiles (besides, you know, as a carpet) click here.

Do pushpins really stay in and hold though?

I love Flor tiles. I just created another rug with them in my living room. I think push pins will work, because the rug material is fused onto a thick rubber backing. Also, I think staple gunning them to the wall is sufficient. We're talking, say, four staples, per floor tile (or, in this case, wall). Any damage to the wall can easily be fixed with a bit of spackle. In the alternative, maybe you could adhere them to the wall with stong velcro strips or tabs.

Does anyone know - can flor tiles go on top of carpeting? Our hallway is carpeted including the area leading right up to our back door. I'd like to put a doormat in front of the door (on top of our carpet) so that we don't track in dirt, but there isn't much room between between the bottom of the door and the carpet. I don't want the doormat to keep curling up, and wonder if a few flor tiles laid on top of my carpet may be my solution!?

I have a concrete wall any ideas how to adhere these to the wall? I put them up and as I sit here typing I hear them falling off the wall. I used carpet tape but that's obviously not working. Any ideas? I found little clips for cubicle partitions that stick in the carpet... really cute and then I don't have to worry about the kids getting tacks stuck in their feet

I am not suppose to make holes in the walls of my apartment. I have started using the 3M command hooks etc. They have some velcro ones to hangs pictures. I think it would stick to concrete and would be strong enough. When you move, everything peels off the wall. The tiles might make for an interesting wall display.
