Name: Kirsten and Shane Grove
Location: Boise, Idaho
Size: 2500 sq ft
Years lived in: 20 months
new_housetour08.jpgHomeowner and interior designer Kirsten Grove must be getting used to seeing shots of her home across the internet - it's been featured here and there already on AT alone. In fact there's so much worth showcasing, it's no wonder Kirsten's got her own website to chronicle all the design goodness she has to share. The family's home has got serious style and personality, but incorporates budget-conscious finds from chain stores seamlessly with designer pieces - a mix we always love to see.

Kirsten and Shane are parents of two small children (Ethan, 3 and Eden, 2), they each have their own job (Shane is a youth minister), and they've started a non-profit adoption organization (Saving Grace Kids) - whew! With all that on their plates, we'd expect the house to be all about function over form, but that's not the case. Kirsten has created a space with bursts of glamour, while at the same time maintaining an easy, comfortable atmosphere. The Urban Outfitters rugs and Ebay finds ensure nothing is too fussy for a house with two kids, but you never get the feeling that style has been compromised as a result. And if you'd like more inspiration, check out Kirsten's website, Simply Grove.

AT Survey
Our style: Comfortable vintage glamour.

The inspiration for my home: European design and great designed furniture.

Favorite element: Super high ceilings in our main sitting room.

Biggest challenge in designing my home: Budget:)

What friends say about my home: "Its different every time I come over!"

Biggest embarrassment in my home: My carpet in the living room. Its stained. Any day now we are gonna rip it all out!

Proudest DIY: My turquoise chair and papered wall in bedroom.

Biggest indulgence with respect to my home: My Grandfathers Upright Grande Piano. It has a lot of sentimental value.

Best advice given or received: Stick with great designed furniture. My designer pieces will always stay with me from house to house.

Dream source for stuff: Consignment and well stocked thrift shops. And a great DWR wouldn't hurt.

Resources
Furniture
Most of my furniture is from consignment, thrift stores and Ebay.

Accessories
Its amazing what you can find at chain stores if you hunt well

Lighting
Lighting is my favorite element of a room and its my favorite accessory to shop for. My lighting is from everywhere! Old and new.

Paint
We stayed with Gray tones throughout all of the rooms. We used Olympic paint for all but my son's room.

Flooring
We have a dark Walnut hardwood in our kitchen, eating area and entry. Our next big project is to continue the hardwood in all of the rooms downstairs.

Rugs and Carpets
Most of our rugs are from Urban Outfitters and chain stores.

Window Treatments
I love my White curtains. They feel light and airy. And you are never tied down to a specific color pallet.

Beds
Our bed is from Urban Outfitters and Shane built my son's bed.

Artwork
Our artwork is mostly from Shane, myself, Etsy, my son Ethan and Ebay.

(Thanks, Kirsten and Shane!)

I like the mix of traditional and MCM. Makes it feel warmer. I'm not fond of quite *so* much symmetry with the brown chairs, black lamps, built in bookcases -- it feels forced. LOve the neutral color palette with gold, silver, and pewter tones for accent. Best thing about this home is that it feels lived in and not staged. Seems like "designery" homes sometimes look overly polished. And I think it's hard to find that medium ground between poilsh and sloppy. :-)

Looks really glam but comfortable. You did a good job with playing up the positive aspects of the space. The only thing that seems a bit out of place is the red checked throw.

Good job on the thrift shop finds! The blue chair is awesome.

I like everything but the dining room--it seems to lack the personality of the rest of the house. I'm guessing it's a room you don't use much? A bright color on the walls would be a nice contrast to all the gray everywhere else...but that's just me, I'm a color freak.

Nice. I like that the kids' toys seem to work with the decor. (Oh, but just wait till they want cartoon bedspreads...)

and I like that your bed has an address!

These days, it's hard to find people that use wallpaper with such taste. It usually looks outdated. Great job!
