Before & After: Black Dining Room

Our post from last week, Inspiration: Dark Interiors, received many great comments from our readers. ModFruGal posted a link to a Before and After project of her dining room. It turned out so nice that we wanted to share it with more of our readers.

ModFruGal did an amazing job transforming her beige/mocha dining room into a more modern black and white version of the room. We like that the moldings, trim, and the ceiling are white. They create a nice contrast with the black walls. The accessories and art in white and blue bring it all together. We especially enjoy the blue tray and the vintage pin up girls art collection on the walls. You can find the sources for most items on the ModFruGal blog, so be sure to check it out. There are also more pictures of the dining room and the house that she has been renovating. We can't wait to see the whole house finished. Enjoy!

The walls, buffet and lamps are a MASSIVE improvement.

Now I hope she does something with that 80's whitewashed table, those galvanized steel chairs, the piles of books on the floor and the undersized artwork above the buffet...

I LOVE those galvalized chairs. Just checked out her blog. They're from Pottery Barn, but I read that they're still Tolix. And the table is actually grey. Not whitewashed. I love the parsons table mixed with the chairs. Great job!

Tres chic! I love a deep rich wall... especially in a small space. It makes a smaller room feel cozy and roomy as the walls recede. Bright light rooms are pretty, of course, but in a small space white can make you feel like all the walls are coming at you and closing in.

Hm. I like the color quite a bit and applaud the bold choice, but I don't think it works well with her current furniture and accessories.

The buffet looks really nice, and I love the floor. Not a fan of the table or the deer head though.

Looks great! I do wish the table was white to match the trim though...

The artwork is "Stuff White Trees Like" by Jon Armstrong - on etsy - AKA dooce's other half.

Animal heads need to be banned from all decor. So do antlers.

(My spousal unit and I play a game with the West Elm catalog where we find the random-dead-animal-part in each picture.)

what is the image in the frame? it reminds me of something I painted on the walls of my bedroom in my parent's house. it looks a lot like the cover of the shin's album "oh, inverted world" anyone know?
