Good Questions: Good Small 24" Undercounter Ovens?

6-25-kitchen-plan.jpg

Hello AT, I've been reading your site for about two years, have found some helpful posts, reader comments, etc. (e.g., you pointed me to the fridge I'm buying (Conserv) for my apartment) and so now, unable to find exactly what I'm looking for anywhere on the web, I turn to you for salvation...

My problem? I need a small under-counter oven that would sit below a 24" cooktop (so, ideally, the oven would also be 24"). After looking all over the place online, the only oven I can find is a Whirlpool electric one that requires more power than I can muster in my small, ~300 SF NYC coop.

And to make this question better and as you've suggested on your site, I've attached an image of "the plan" for the apartment (note that the cooktop in the image is only two burners... I'm shooting for 4 thus the 24" I referenced above).

Anyway, appreciate any help you, or your readers, can provide!

Thanks! Terence

Dear Terence,

We don't know if this will work for you, but we're really happy with our 24" DeLonghi Gas Oven. We went for gas over electricity also because our old building didn't have the electrical power. Gas was easier.

Anyone else??

Terence,

We have a 24" Verona gas oven. It looks beautiful. Beware that you have to hold in the knob for more than a minute to start this thing, which is highly annoying. I guess it is a chef stove thing that we would have avoided if we had a do over. We miss the ease of our pre-stainless Sears stove days.

Hi...have you considered using a range? And, also putting it in the center with a smaller cabinet to each side? It will save your wall at the left, unless you put some sort of tile on the wall or other material there. Viking has a 24" gas range. The Delonghi that Maxwell mentioned is a nice oven. I would advise that the oven/cooktop combination are of the same brand, otherwise both warranties may be voided and that they also are allowed to be used together in that situation, even if they are of the same brand.

Also a very sweet looking Fisher paykel 24" gas range.

I think Jenn-air might make a narrow one

First off, Maxwell, thank you SO MUCH for the help! I actually feel "lazy" b/c those links you posted are EXACTLY what I'm looking for (I just wish I'd found them on AT myself before sending in my question).

Having said that, I think that Delonghi is going to work out perfectly (though, artdoggie, I will check out the Verona as well).

Susan, to answer your question about the range vs. separate cooktop/oven, it's really just a stylistic preference (the friend who drew up that drawing thought of it and I fully bought into the concept). Having said that, there is a remote chance that once I get in there to redo the kitchen in July I may be "forced" to go w/ a range (I put forced in quotes b/c that fp range you specified is actually really nice looking and I would not be sad if I had something like that in place of the cooktop/oven). Also wanted to say thanks for the idea on the wall. You're right. I should move the cooktop/oven away from the wall so the wall becomes usable. Great idea!

Sorry for the long comment, folks, but just wanted to get the appropriate "thanks" out there. This has been extremely helpful. I might have to come back on here in a week or two when I'm ready to buy a kitchen sink and ask if anyone knows of one that would fit nicely into a 25" x 16" space.

Take care and thanks again.

Avanti has several options in the 24 inch range. Here's a link to the a stainless steel "pro-style" one as posted on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Avanti-ELBA-Pro-Style-Range/dp/B000J6E2KY

Also, if you're the fancy type, I think that the Vikings and Wolf-types all make a 24" "side range". I think it's really supposed to go along with the usual wide stove, but can be used singly though I bet it only has a few burners. Good luck!

If you do cook a lot, and think of placing a range, I own the 24" Capital range that has a FANTASTIC gas oven that bakes everything to perfection. Bear in mind it is 300 pounds heavy so need to make sure the floor supports it, and that who sells will deliver it to your kitchen, instead to your curbside.

Check out any of the AEG ovens here. You can order their products in the US so no worries.

That 24" F&P is nice too. I wish we could get more of the cool, compact stuff here in N. America that they sell in New Zealand *sigh*

The placement of the range in that photo doesn't meet code. You'll catch your wall on fire. You might want to not do that.
