Inside Neverland Ranch
The New York Times

When the co-owners of Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch opened the doors to the public yesterday, The New York Times photographer Jim Wilson was there. Though the 13,000 square foot main house and the grounds were cleared out 5 years ago, the evidence of an opulent lifestyle is still in place (ferris wheel footings, gold-plated bathroom fixtures, gigantic home theater, the train station, etc)...

Early this year we featured Tova's Penny Tiled Powder Room on Apartment Therapy SF. Earlier this week, Jean of NotCot shares her preview of New York's new Standard Hotel restaurant, The Standard Grill and they've tiled the floor in pennies!

Good Questions: Hiding Mirrored Doors?

7-2-mirror-armoires-0.jpg

Dear Apartment Therapy, I have four mirrored armoires that came with my apartment when I moved in. I'm not allowed to get rid of them, and I wouldn't want to since they provide a lot of closet space, but they're unsightly. My bedroom feels like an 80s dance studio. Each armoire opens from the middle, out (in the photos, they open where you see the metal latch in the center of each one). What can I do to make them look better? My sewing skills are limited, but I'm willing to try almost anything. Thank you! Alexandra

Michelberger Budget Hotel by Werner Aisslinger
Berlin

Berlin's new Michelberger Budget hotel is scheduled to open on September 9th, 2009 and the preview images show just what we like to see in a budget hotel — a space that is simplistic, modern and NOT boring. With interiors designed by Werner Aisslinger (he of LoftCube fame) and rates starting at &eur; 59 per night, this hotel should be popular...

Catskills Cottage on a Budget
The New York Times

7-2-catskills-cottage-1.jpg

With a budget of $10,000, Christina Salway and John Moskowitz transformed an abandoned 700 square foot house in the Catskills into a weekend cottage with a touch of urban sophistication. The New York Times tells the story of the couple's first home purchase and their 8-month DIY renovation (they did hire a roofing contractor)...

Good Questions: Stripping Finish from IKEA PS Locker?

7-2-ikea-ps-locker.jpg

Do you think it's possible to strip the metal from an Ikea PS locker? Looking for advice on how to do this and if I should seal it afterwards. I am worried the metal underneth would be too low quality to look nice. Really would like that raw metal feel. Thanks.

Cute Icelandic Cottage
The New York Times

7-1-iceland-home-1.jpg

Hop on Bjork's Yacht and head over to southern Iceland to check out this wooden cottage from 1953. The New York Times highlights the 2,200 square foot home with an additional 10,280 square feet walled garden (complete with requisite hot tub — so Icelandic!). Like many homes in Iceland, the "heating and hot water are provided by natural hot springs and geysers..."

Good Questions: Identify Vintage Chairs?

7-1-vintage-chairs.jpg

I purchased these chairs at my neighbor's tag sale recently; they belonged to her mother. I bought a pair of these lounge chairs (chair on left) but the seating has been replaced by a vinyl weave. The original pattern may be different and I would like to have them restored back to cord. I also bought three of these dining chairs (chair on right) — she only had three and I would like to complete the set. I've tried to look for another one but have not had any luck. Does anyone have any clue of who the maker of this chair is? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ariadne

Design Inspiration from London's Connaught Hotel

Last week's Good Question: Identify Sconces From Connaught Bar? inspired us to dig a little deeper in the Connaught's photo archives, and we're glad we did! The luxury hotel in London's Mayfair Village has emerged from the first phase of renovations and has a distinct contemporary edge for a hotel built in 1897...

Good Questions: Custom Acrylic Furniture?

7-1-custom-acrylic.jpg

Hi, Apartment Therapy! I was wondering if anyone knew a good source for custom printed acrylic furniture. I am looking to specify a large number of custom printed chairs for a project in Miami, and I'm having trouble finding a US supplier. I like the idea of the large scale print in the first picture, and the style of chair in the second picture. The chair in the first picture is from a Scottish company, Jan Milne, who does beautiful work, but we'd like to buy US. I know the Apartment Therapy community has a lot of fabulous designers as readers — Anyone have any recommendations? Thank you, Kim

Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: We had a blank, 750 square feet terrace space to fill.
