Continuing on with one of our many new voices, this one originating from Austin, Texas. Please give Ana some feedback...

070908austin-ana01.jpgWith displays by local artist Alyson Fox, Homegirls looks like a museum, but not of the be-careful-with-that variety. All of the furniture and home accessories are well curated -- unlike many vintage stores, there's plenty of room to walk around and look at each piece as if it were an exhibit or work of art...

070908austin-ana02.jpgThe owners – the mother and daughter team of Kathryn and Sarah Blanchard – clearly put a lot of thought into the furniture they refurbish; the focus is great lines and quality construction. They're the kind of things you'd bring home because you love the way they look, and would fit in your house no matter how many times (or ways) you redecorated.

070908austin-ana03.jpgHopefully, the concept of the store -- recycling furniture because it's the environmentally responsible thing to do -- will catch on. Homegirls has a lot of local competition since Burnet Road has become something of a Re-sale Row, but the Blanchards are Texas-friendly and great people to stop and chat with while you're looking for ideas. They also offer design consultations and accept items on consignment, which they refer to as furniture re-homing.

070908austin-ana04.jpgThe prices aren't low by Austin standards, but the furniture is an excellent value when you consider how much a classic piece of livable design is worth.

Hi, everybody. Thanks for the kind comments so far! One thing you'll discover about Austin is that people are passionate about supporting local businesses so I thought I would share some places that reflect the kind of community we are. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll do my best to answer them.

B.H. -- According to my notes, the rewired yellow chandelier on the left is $185 and the lantern on the right is $145. They are really beautiful in person.

This is my favorite store in Austin. I made my first 'adult' purchase there of a beautiful coffee table, and I am still as much in love with it as the day I bought it. Also, Kathryn is the nicest woman I've met in Austin. She gives me lots of advice and encouragement as I try to reupholster my first couch. Yay Home Girls!!!

I love this store. So happy to see it getting the props it deserves. I live in Portland, OR but am in Austin regularly for business and always make a stop at Homegirls. The variety and prices are great and the owners are always so friendly and helpful.

From one Ana to another, I say, "great find!" I'm digging those little striped canvases! More detail shots are always appreciated! Looking forward to visiting their place the next time I'm in town.
