Attua Aparicio Torinos' Cabinet
A Small Space Entertainer's Dream

112008attuacabinet-1.jpgThis storage cabinet by Spanish designer Attua Aparicio Torinos is easily the best product design we've seen this week. At first glance, it doesn't seem all that special. But it offers something wonderfully useful for those of us with space limitations...

IKEA's "Come Into the Closet" Website: Weird but Mesmerizing

112008comeinthecloset01.jpgPerhaps it's partially because we're at the tail end of our work day, or because we've been running on empty the last few weeks with a hectic work schedule...or maybe because we're just a little strange to begin with...but this web advertisement from IKEA has had us mesmerized with its peculiar combination of pre-animated dancing against the backdrop of IKEA catalog items. Each character moves according to the sounds/beats of the music, which you can choose or change to an uploaded option. Use your keyboard to add your own defined beats or influence the spastic activities like a demented puppeteer with your computer's microphone. Check out some screen grabs below...

Roundup: Best Local Pottery and Ceramics
...and a related weekend event at A+R

112008_pottery.jpgWith all the discussions about tableware this week (corelle vs. heath vs. eva) and the impending holiday season, we wanted to round up some of our favorite potters and ceramicists around town (and etsy) and highlight an event happening this weekend:

Good Questions: Cleaning Skylights?

112008dirtyskylights.jpgDear Apartment Therapy, my partner and I just moved into a condo with a skylight in the kitchen and also in one of the bathrooms. We absolutely love how they provide natural light during the day, BUT, we noticed a most unruly foul fowl has spoiled our upward view with one of their most unreasonable deposits (a considerable amount considering their size). Could you recommend some tips for cleaning a skylight? What may be as easy as a task as getting up there and wiping seems as unclear as our view for us new skylight owners. Sincerely, Viggo.

Your Car As An Extension of Your Home

112008car-03.jpgWe lead a relatively organized life in our home. Containers are labeled, items have a place to land and we have systems for keeping everything in order. Because our car acts like a much smaller version of our apartment, we have zones for keeping items handy, trash has a place to go and we have systems for keeping our ride clean. We've included some organizing techniques we use in our own car after the jump.

Roundup: 6 Console Tables For Gathering Inspiration

112008_console01.jpgNarrow in design and functional for storage, the console table can be a nice anchor to a room. We are currently in the market for a console table and have started doing some research. While we are looking for a simple table with clean lines, like the Parsons table, these days you can find about any design style you prefer. Check out this roundup and gather some console inspiration for your own space.

House Call: Carter Residence
Los Angeles

Name: Carter Residence; Bruce Bolander
Location: Brentwood, CA
>>>View Slideshow

Here's a bit of a flashback of an interior space we found ourselves revisiting via a Los Angeles magazine article from 2004, which showcased a modern rendition of the California ranch house designed by architect Bruce Bolander. Situated within a scenic hillside in the tony Brentwood section of Los Angeles, the Carter Residence is luxurious and large, but architecturally engaging. We personally love the home for its interior/exterior interplay with the surrounding natural elements just outside its windows, with stairways both inside and out that mimic the elevation changes of the landscape itself and a colour palette that takes cues from nature itself. Take a visit below...

Revisiting the Southwest's Most Popular House Tours in October...

Maxwell's recent AT newsletter made note of three of our top October house tours from the Southwest region, with an East Coast perspective: "The sunlight and the generally more airy spaces are super inviting, while the eclecticism and humor of the inhabitants will make you think differently about your own home. It will make you want to try new things." Take a peek below, take in the sunlight, be inspired to try something new and find out which house tours were our most popular last month (with page view stats, for those of you who like to keep a tally)...

LA Survey: You Think Your Neighbor's Bad...?

112008-neighbor01.jpgLast week, Gregory posted some sage advice on being a good neighbor. We're trying to take his advice to heart. Like many of you, we love our home, but our neighbors can be...umm...challenging. One of our neighbors has a dog that will attack anything that moves (me, the postman), another lets the gate slam in the wee hours, another has an early morning work schedule that has him scampering overhead at dawn. We talked to our friends about their neighbors...and realized it could be worse. We wondered what the number one complaint among ATers (some of whom could be your neighbor!) was. Help us out by taking our survey, after the jump...

Good Questions: Need This Side Table Table Identified

112008-002500-P00151_1.jpgHello LA Apartment Therapy! I'm on the lookout for a beautiful side table that I saw in the FLOR (carpet tiles) Winter 2008 catalog.  I was wondering if someone in the Apartment Therapy community may know where I can purchase this table. Thanks for your help! Love your site! -Cocoa

Roundup: Creative Jewelry Display Options

112008jewelry-08.jpgBecause we like to wear the same type of clothing on a daily basis, the jewelry we wear tends to also stay the same. We hardly ever take off our necklace and wear a ring that our grandmother passed down to us--same story with the earrings. While we like to wear the same thing everyday, it wouldn't be difficult to switch our jewelry up a bit--if only it was displayed. Because of our small space, our jewelry boxes live in the top corner of our closet (not the best place to keep our bling if we wanted to actually wear it). We've rounded up some creative jewelry display options (to better our chances of accessing our gems) after the jump.
